In a tight encounter between Malta’s top women’s teams, Balzan Flyers beat Fleur De Lys Twistees by three sets to nil to clinch the MVA Super Cup (25-23; 25-23; 25-21). The match, one of the major fixtures of the season, was preceded by a show of solidarity by the local volleyball community as all participating players and coaches wore t-shirts in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month in the warm-up phase of the match.
Commenting on the final, Malta Volleyball Association President Jesmond Saliba said that the Super Cup was a flagship event for the sport in Malta, and that he was “very encouraged by the excitement this event generated in the local volleyball community, as well as the level of attendance by supporters of the two teams and volleyball lovers in general”. He also highlighted the fact that through its support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the local volleyball community was showing all those who were courageously fighting their own personal battles against cancer, “that they were not alone”.
