The Malta Volleyball Association renewed its commitment to develop the sport youth sector by donating a number of official youth balls to the clubs who are actively competing in the under-14 and under-16 competitions. Over the past 6 years, the junior volleyball sector has been given a much needed boost with Maltese younger female players competing in the Junior Small Nations Division European Competitions held in Liechtenstein in 2008, in Luxembourg in 2010 and last year in Malta. The teams’ overall performances have been quite encouraging and over the past years, the Malta Volleyball Association has invested in providing National training sessions for under-14, under-16 and under-18 teams. Each team is training twice a week under the guidance of the National Coach Tibor Stranacek who is providing technical skills and experience to the future group.
This year, 5 teams are participating in the under-16 female league, which is running after a long absence and this augurs well for the development of the sport on the island. 6 teams are participating in this year’s under-14 league, while a very good number of schools have enthusiastically competed at the recently held tournament for schools.
